God’s
divine illusion, sometimes sunshine, sometimes shade
Everyone is captivated by the world.
Water always moves downward,
it turns into vapor-
and rises due to the heat of the sun,
then as rain
it falls upon everyone’s head.
The Ganga
never returns to Gangotri,
which
is its place of origin. In exactly the same
way,
society also has certain boundaries
which
everyone knows; no one is
unaware of them.
Great people rise above
trivial things.
Who am I, what is my name,
where
have I come from? I am the
princess of fairies,
I have come from the sky. Mandi
Ahmedgarh’s
Garg daughter, Sunam’s Singla
daughter-in-law,
say that as long as the sun and moon remain,
Garg’s wife
Punya Singla’s name will remain.
O Lord, you have many devotees, and they come
in many ways,
bringing precious offerings of many
different kinds in your service.
I alone am such a poor woman, who has brought
nothing with her,
yet I have dared to come to the temple
to worship.
I have neither incense, lamp nor offering,
nor the decoration of the tableau,
nor even a garland of flowers
to adorn your neck.
How can I sing hymns? There is no sweetness
in my voice,
nor do I have eloquence in my speech
to express the feelings of my heart.
I have neither donation nor offering;
I have come empty-handed.
I do not know the method of worship,
yet, O Lord, I have come.
At your feet
I offer this; accept it if you wish.
It is, after all, your own possession;
reject it or accept it with love.
They come to the temple
with great pomp and ceremony,
with music and celebration.
They bring precious pearls, gems and valuable things
and offer them to you.
